JERUSALEM — The Israeli military announced on Sunday, September 6, 2026, that it is conducting strikes in southern Lebanon in response to Hezbollah launching two drones towards IDF soldiers operating in the Security Zone. The military has urged residents of the town of Arab Salim to evacuate ahead of imminent attacks on a facility belonging to Hezbollah in the area.

According to a statement from the Israeli military, the drone launch constitutes a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire agreement by Hezbollah. No Israeli soldiers were reported wounded in the drone attack, and one of the drones was shot down by IDF troops.

The evacuation warning for Arab Salim was issued via Telegram, with residents instructed to leave the vicinity of a building identified by the IDF as a Hezbollah facility.

This escalation follows a period of reduced violence since a US-Iran memorandum of understanding in June and a subsequent framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon. However, tensions remain, with Israeli forces operating within a self-declared "security zone" approximately 10 kilometers deep along the Lebanon border.

UN peacekeepers with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been monitoring developments along the border, noting a fragile calm after hostilities eased in late June, though they have also reported violations of Resolution 1701.
