Lafia, Nasarawa State – Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has officially secured the governorship ticket of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State for the upcoming 2027 general election. Adamu emerged as the party's sole aspirant during a replacement primary election held on Saturday in Lafia, successfully replacing the party's previous candidate, Musa Adamu Angba, who had withdrawn from the race.

The special delegates congress, which saw the participation of 28,637 delegates across the state's 13 local government areas, affirmed Adamu as the party's flag-bearer. Joseph Achille, the Chairman of the SDP Electoral Committee for Nasarawa State, announced Adamu's victory, describing the primary as "free, fair, and credible."

In his acceptance speech, Adamu pledged to address what he described as "bad governance" in Nasarawa State and promised to prioritize critical areas such as rural infrastructure and healthcare. He highlighted the neglected state of roads in hinterlands and the need for expanded access to healthcare beyond major towns. Adamu also stated his intention to review the exploitation of the state's mineral resources to ensure greater benefit for the people.

Adamu urged party members to remain united as they prepare for the 2027 elections, emphasizing that the SDP is poised to offer an alternative leadership in the state.

It is important to note that a previous report from August 30, 2026, indicated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had listed Musa Angbazo as the SDP candidate, a discrepancy that Adamu's campaign organization stated they had documentation to resolve.
