The Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) is ushering in a new era with the announcement of Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as the co-hosts for its 12th edition. The prestigious ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. This significant change marks the end of IK Osakioduwa's extensive 11-year tenure as the sole host of the AMVCA since its inception in 2013.

Bovi, renowned for his sharp wit, storytelling prowess, and commanding stage presence, expressed his excitement and honor at taking on the hosting duties. "The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don't take that lightly," he stated. "I want to bring the energy, the laughs, and the magic that this night deserves. African storytelling is at an all-time high, and it's an honor to be the one holding the mic while we celebrate the best of it."

Joining Bovi is Nomzamo Mbatha, an internationally acclaimed actress, producer, and humanitarian. Mbatha has gained global recognition for her roles in "Coming 2 America" and her lead performance as Queen Nandi in the epic series "Shaka iLembe," for which she also serves as an executive producer. Her involvement as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation adds a layer of global credibility and purpose to her role.

The organizers described the pairing of Bovi and Mbatha as a perfect blend of comedy, storytelling, global appeal, and advocacy, promising a night that celebrates African excellence and diversity.

IK Osakioduwa, who has been the consistent face of the AMVCA for over a decade, will be stepping down after hosting every edition since its debut. His departure signifies a major shift for the awards ceremony, which has become a cornerstone of Africa's creative industry.

The 12th edition of the AMVCA will also introduce new categories, including Best Indigenous Language (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa), further emphasizing the awards' pan-African vision and inclusivity.

Veteran actress Joke Silva has been appointed as the head judge for this year's edition.

The nominees for the 12th AMVCA were announced on March 29, 2026, with films like 'Gingerrr' and 'The Herd' leading the nominations with nine each.

The Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards is presented by MultiChoice and celebrates outstanding achievements in television, film, and digital storytelling across Africa.
